Everything about using Sportily
RaceLens is a statistical research tool that lets you build custom filters based on racing data patterns. You can create filters combining over 60 different criteria (like going conditions, distance, trainer stats, AI predictions) and backtest them against historical race results to discover which patterns hold up over time.
Click the 'New lens' button to open the playground. Use the visual filter builder to combine conditions (e.g., 'Going is Soft' AND 'Distance is greater than 10 furlongs' AND 'AI Win % is at least 15%'). Click 'Test' to run a backtest, then save your lens with a descriptive name.
'Picks' shows how many historical selections your lens made during backtesting (past volume). 'Matches' shows runners currently matching your lens in the upcoming 24-hour window (future opportunities).
The percentages show how selections have performed historically. The 'Win' column shows results for first-place finishes, while 'Top 2' and 'Top 3' show performance for placed finishes. These metrics help you evaluate pattern effectiveness over time.
Creating and backtesting lenses is available to all users. Running your saved lenses against upcoming races in the next 24 hours is a Pro feature, allowing you to see which runners match your custom criteria before races begin.
This shows the maximum number of consecutive selections that didn't finish first in your lens's backtest history. It helps you understand the natural variance in any pattern's performance.
Use 'Duplicate to Playground' from the three-dot menu to load a lens into the builder. Make your changes, then save it again. If you use the same name, it will update the existing lens.
SmartPicks is a statistical analysis tool that highlights runners with interesting patterns each day. The system uses machine learning models trained on historical racing data to identify selections, with full transparency on model performance over time.
The percentage represents the model's calculated win probability for that runner. Scores are colour-coded: green (20%+) indicates higher confidence, amber (10-20%) medium confidence, and grey (<10%) lower confidence. These are statistical probabilities, not guarantees.
'Win' tracks selections that finish first. 'Top 2' and 'Top 3' track selections that finish in the first two or three places, depending on the size of the field. Signed-in members also see the weighting each selection carries in the performance calculations.
'NR' means Non-Runner - the horse was withdrawn from the race after the selection was made. Non-runners are excluded from performance calculations and don't count as wins or losses.
Stats are calculated from all historical picks, not just the current page. Strike rate shows the percentage of selections that finished first. Cumulative performance measures are shown to signed-in members.
The timer shows how long until the race begins. Format changes based on proximity: '3d 2h' for distant races, '2h 30m' for same-day, and 'Starting...' when less than 2 minutes away. A flame icon appears when a race is within 1 hour.
Yes. Free users have full access to historical results and performance stats, providing complete transparency on how the model has performed. Upcoming picks require a Pro subscription to view the actual selections.
Each course page displays today's (or selected date's) race schedule, including race times, distances, going conditions, prize money, and field sizes. For accessible races, you'll also see the top 3 AI-ranked runners with their predicted win percentages.
Access varies by subscription level. The first race at each course is always free. Races 2-3 require a free account. Races 4+ require a Pro subscription. All completed races become freely accessible regardless of your plan.
The coloured left border indicates the AI model's confidence tier based on statistical advantage: Purple (Elite) represents exceptional confidence, Gold (Premium) very strong, Blue (Strong) good confidence, and Green (Solid) standard picks.
Use the horizontal timeline at the top to click between available dates, or use the calendar widget. Dates without races appear greyed out. The page defaults to today's races or the nearest future race day.
This shows the historical success rate of the AI model at this particular course - the percentage of races where one of the top predictions finished first.
Abandoned races display an 'Abandoned' badge and show no prediction data. These are excluded from performance calculations.
When you see the ChatGPT logo with 'approved' next to a horse's name, it indicates that ChatGPT's independent analysis found a significant positive edge for that runner. It appears when ChatGPT's calculated win probability sits meaningfully above the probability implied by the market. It's a second opinion that complements our main AI model, not a guarantee of success.
There are two access levels: Free gives access to race 1 at each course plus races 2-3 with a registered account. Pro offers unlimited access to all races, full SmartPicks selections, and complete RaceLens features including upcoming matches. Your Pro price is assigned to your account and shown on the subscription page when you are signed in.
Yes, Pro subscriptions include a 1-day free trial. You can cancel anytime during or after the trial with no commitment.
Sportily can assign account-specific Pro pricing for campaigns, experiments, and returning users. The price shown on your subscription page is the price attached to your account and is the price used when you start checkout.
Unlocks are the free tier's currency: new members get a few free race unlocks, and each one opens a single race page in full — the card, the model's verdict and the prices — with no subscription. They never expire, so you can spend them on whichever races you want. Subscribe to Pro for unlimited access.

Click 'Manage billing' to access the Stripe portal where you can cancel your subscription. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. You can also restore a cancelled subscription before it expires.
